Gooodddd Mmmooorrrnnniiinngg Vvviieetttnnaammm!!

Good Morning Vietnam
Original Soundtrack
Touchstone Pictures 1987

02. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Nowhere to Run

04. Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders - Game of Love

13. Them - Baby Please Don't Go

18. Robin Williams - Adrian Cronauer Segment 7

This movie was a sentimental choice. Its not as big a cult classic as Ferris Bueller, but I remember being a little kid and playing air guitar to the cassette of this soundtrack.

Now, these songs are forever etched in my mind and whenever I hear them I see Robin Williams and Vietnam.

Slave
Stone Jam
Atlantic Records 1980

04. Sizzlin' Hot

08. Stone Jam

My boy Steve from my old job put me onto Slave. They're definitely one of the funkiest groups to come out of that decade.

Ambassador of Boogie Funk

Dam Funk
Toeachizown Vol 1 - LAtrik
Stones Throw 2009

01. Toeachizown

02. Mirrors

03. On & On

Dam Funk... where do I begin.

This guy is one of my favorite new artists. Along with all the new guys on the Stones Throw label, he is bringing a very unique sound to the mundane waves that perpetuate the current musical landscape.

He is also one of the two DJs that have introduced me to the Boogie Funk genre. The 80s stuff I'll be spinning is strongly influenced by this man.

Baptize the Beat

The System
Sweat
Wounded Bird Records 1981

01. Sweat

02. You Are in My System

03. It's Passion

The first time I heard a song from The System was from Beat Street. They were one of the bands auditioning to perform at the Roxy when Chollie goes to try and get the manager to come see Double K spin.

I caught one of their records and it's now going to be one of the albums I pull from for my 80s set.

Bueller... Bueller... Bueller... Bueller...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Original Soundtrack
Paramount Pictures 1986

01. Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Love Missile F1-11

03. Yello - Oh Yeah

04. The Flowerpot Men - Beat City

08. Wayne Newton - Danke Schoen

Every now and then I'm gonna give y'all a Classic Soundtrack Day. I'm going to try and give you guys a movie where the music is sooo synonymous with the movie one can't live without the other.

And for Classic Soundtrack Day's debut, I chose none other than Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

From Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Love Missile F1-11, from the intro scene with Ferris talking into the camera. To Yello's Oh Yeah, from the scene with Cameron's Dad's Ferrari. To the Flowerpot Men's Beat City, after they pick up Sloan and drive to the city. To Wayne Newton's Danke Schoen, from the parade when Ferris starts singing. You can't hear these songs without visualizing those classic moments.

Nash in Chicago

Graham Nash
Songs for Beginners
Atlantic Records 1971

04. I Used to be a King

08. There's Only One

10. Chicago

Caught this record at a Salvation Army. They had about 5 crates of records and the first 3 had nothing but classical music. Which is cool but I was hoping to find some breaks or some good ol' soul funk.

Then I caught this beauty. Oh man does that Chicago thump.
